Xcruciate is an open-source all-XML server project. At its heart is a virtual machine built around LibXSLT. I/O is in XML over multiple TCP sockets. Persistent data storage is provided via modifiable XML files. The event-based API for XSLT includes a DOM interface for making surgical changes to large data files. XSL files can be modified in real time too. The project includes an HTTP gateway that, with the virtual machine, provides a web server solution. XSL libraries have been developed for building chat-like virtual worlds and for CMS-based websites. Client-side software can be implemented in any XML-aware language - the project includes proof of concept clients in TCL and java.
